About the event

This event will offer mothers and daughters (5-12) the opportunity to spend time together in nature, camping and learning outdoor skills while also learning about women who encouraged girls to explore and face challenges.  You will take a closer look at the life of the founder of the Girl Scouts, Juliette Gordon Low and also explore the life of Mary Jackson, NASA Engineer featured in the book and movie Hidden Figures. Mrs. Jackson served as a Girl Scout Leader for 30 years.  Another spotlight will be on Dr. Carolyn Williams the Executive Associate Director of Cooperative Extension* at Prairie View A&M University. Among other things Dr. Jackson’s position provides direction for the 4-H and Youth Development programs. Dr. Jackson was a very active 4-H member during her school days.

There will be workshops on the topics of outdoor skills, plants and animal life in the area, and a 1860s and 1960s fashion show in honor of the two women we will highlight and celebrate Juliette Gordon Lows birthday, she was born October 31, 1860 in Savannah, Georgia.  Girl Scout membership is not a requirement.
