Farm Friends you may be wondering why the price of eggs is rising. We know one reason, the price of feed is rising. Even though we allow our fowl to free range they need to have a supplement as they can’t depend only on what they can find. This article is about a chicken farmer facing the same rising costs as we do. But not only do poultry farmers face rising feed prices but additional expenses add up as well. For example, the cost of cartons, labeling and of course our own labor to feed and care for them, make improvements to shelter and purchase feeders and waterers. Finally, consider the price of gas to go pick up the feed and return to the farm, every bit adds up. We’ve tried to keep our eggs at $6 but now they are rising again. We hope the prices of feed go down again very soon but until they do we too must raise our prices to try and make a small profit. We appreciate your support and hope this helps you understand what’s going on in the farming community.
