About the event
This month we will celebrate Decoration Day by looking back at the service of the United States Colored Troops and the Montford Point Marines with special recognition of those servicement from the Beaufort District. Â Discover the service of Robert Smalls and other Gullah men in the USCT, hear some of their stories and sing some of their songs. Hear our guest speaker, Retired Marine and member of the Montfort Point Marine Association, as he tells us about the men who served as the first Negro Troops of the US Marines. Â All of this takes place while partaking of a delicious meal prepared in the Gullah food tradition around campfires, under magnificent live oaks. Â
