Come Visit the Farm

Morning Glory Homestead Farm offers creative, hands-on, interdisciplinary field trips that meet South Carolina State Learning Standards.   All students will have the opportunity to feed chickens, ducks, turkeys and goats,  taste produce from the garden .Younger students’ experience will be sensory based, while older students’ experience will expand to include such topics as basic needs, soil/food production and local South Carolina history. Classroom studies can be integrated into your field trip to build on students’ knowledge and understanding.

Our farm classes:

Fall and Winter (September-February)

  • Dr. George Washington Carver: Inventor, Extension Agent, Agriculture Instructor, Artist and more!

  • Let’s Talk Turkey: Study of a Misunderstood Bird

  • Fall on the Farm: More than Pumpkins, Gourds, Corn and Leaves

  • Seasonal High Tunnel (Hoop House): How to Extend the Growing Season

  • AgriBusiness:Planning the summer market garden, ordering seeds, budgeting, buying equipment and more.  

Spring (March-May)

  • Pollination: The ways plants are pollinated. 

  • Mendel's Peas: A study of genetics. 

  • Embryology: Incubating poultry eggs in an incubator. Studying the development of the chick embryo.

Summer (June-August)

  • Sowing Seeds: Methods of plant propagation, starting from seeds to making clippings. 

  • Composting With and Without Worms: How to reduce waste through composting.

Each class will be tailored to meet the standards of the subject and age of the students attending.  Expect hands on activities, close up views of the animals, demonstrations of farm equipment, research pertaining to farm practices and their effects on the environment.  See reproductions of the experiments of famous scientists, i.e. Dr. George Washington Carver's work on healthy soil through crop rotation, and Johann Gregor Mendel's study of genetics using peas.
